The Trust House Women’s Cycling Tour of New Zealand Top Teams Sign for the March Tour: T-Mobile, Flexpoint, Cheerwine and National Teams from Germany, New Zealand and Australia

Race Director Jorge Sandoval confirmed that American UCI Women’s Professional Trade Team, Cheerwine, will compete in this year’s tour. The team includes two members of the USA national team, two from the Canadian National team, a Kiwi and an Australian rider.
Laura Van Gilder, one of the top sprinters in the United States, will lead the 2007 Cheerwine women’s team. Van Gilder, a former member of the US world’s team who has more than 300 career wins, will bring much-needed power to the team.
2006 New Zealand national road champion Catherine Cheatley (nee Sell) has recently signed a professional contract to ride for the United States based team and will make her pro team debut in Wellington. Cheatley won the inaugural Women’s Tour in 2005 and rode for the New Zealand team at last year’s Commonwealth Games and Track World Cup.
Other members of the team include American Brooke Ourada, also a member of the USA National Team and a very experienced road rider who won the 2005 Tour of Bisbee. Betina Hold and Leigh Hobson, both members of the Canadian national team, are also part of the team. Making up the group is highly regarded Australian road rider Rachel O’Connell, who finished second in the 2006 USA Superweek Race, one of America’s most prestigious cycling events.
“Cheerwine is excited about competing in the 2007 Trust House Women’s Tour,” said Thad Fischer, Cheerwine Team Director. “This is a prestigious event on the world’s UCI calendar and is an important part of our 2007 race programme.”
