Yesterday we had an intense flash flood! Our dirt road literally turned in to a river for a few hours. This is actually an alternate dirt road in to our property. The main one was completely washed out, and the water was running so deep and wild that we could not make it in. So this was the safer road of the two. It was actually kind of scary. Chad and I thought we would have to hike in above the road to get home. We were so relieved when we made it home to our eagerly awaiting herd of animals.
About a month ago, we really needed the rain. We were not getting our regular summer monsoons. Now we are getting a summer's worth of moisture in a week. Not good. The ground is so saturated it is not absorbing any more water. And on a selfish note, a lot of our hard work landscaping has been washed away as well. A lot of gravel we had put in the front of our house has been flooded with mud. I am so annoyed! And our plants look like they are drowning. It is pouring again today. Hopefully we can get some New Mexico sunshine in here soon.
