Training on the cobbles of Lisboa was quite an experience. Running up the steep grades of the Alfama district was pretty intense...those grades rival anything found in San Francisco. Since I have not really run since 2001, it was a great place to up my intensity after all these years of just cycling. Chad and I felt clumsy at first...we were tripping and feeling really awkward while trying to run on the uneven surfaces. All the old Portuguese ladies carrying groceries, heavy purses, and wearing heels don't seem to have any trouble with cobbles, but we sure did:-). Getting schooled by 80-year-olds on cobbles was one of our many funny memories.
